Dear Family, Friends
and Colleagues:
Today there are more than 10 million Americans
living with cancer. Cancer touches us all. As a member of the Lance Armstrong
Foundation's (LAF) Peloton Project, I am raising awareness and funds to help
the LAF provide the physical, emotional and practical support for people
battling the disease. Please join me in supporting the LAF to help stop cancer
from taking control of people's lives.
Founded in 1997 by cancer
survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF believes that in the
battle with cancer, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. From the
moment of diagnosis, the Foundation provides the practical information and
tools people living with cancer need to live strong. Your donation to the
Peloton Project will help the LAF support people affected by cancer through
advocacy, research, education and public health programs.
The fight
against cancer is not an easy task, but an organization that bears the name of
the man who fought back from cancer to win a record seven consecutive Tours de
France can aim for nothing less. Lance eloquently and courageously recounted
his story in his autobiography "It's Not About the Bike." I was given this book
from a cancer surviving friend of mine while I was recuperating from colon
surgery at St. John's in August of 2001. My love of sports would have made
Lance my hero, but after reading his book I then really knew that I could
battle cancer. Yes, Lance is such a great hero and athlete, that in 2003 and
2005, Christa and I had the awesome pleasure of witnessing his amazing feats in
Paris on the Champs Elysees!
Please join me in supporting the Lance
Armstrong Foundation's effort by purchasing a ticket to our company's first
funraiser "Revelry 1" on February 25th. Christa and our employees at St.
Charles Engineering and Surveying are working hard to create a Venetian
Carnival ( the Italian-style Shrove Tuesday), which coincides with the closing
ceremony of the XX Winter Olympic Games on the following Sunday night. Go
USA!!!
Enclosed is your invitation for Revelry 1, and remember that
your donation will have far reaching effects for those living with cancer,
their loved ones and healthcare providers. If you have any questions about the
Lance Armstrong Foundation, please contact me at mmeiners@stcharleseng.com, the
Lance Armstrong Foundation at (512) 236-8820, or visit the LAF website at
www.laf.org, to find out more about the work your donation supports.
On
behalf of all those whose lives are affected by cancer, I thank you for your
support. With your donation we can continue to help people live strong.
Sincerely, Michael N. Meiners
P.S. Your donation does make a
difference - more than 80% of the LAF's annual budget goes directly toward
programs, grants, education and advocacy that support people living with
cancer |
